The professional school counselor is a certified school teacher with a master’s degree in school counseling, including coursework in career development, human growth and behavior, guidance and information services, and a supervised internship. Counselors at NMS are each assigned a grade level and stay with that group of students throughout their time in middle school. Their main role is to provide a comprehensive program that meets the academic and socialemotional needs of each student. This includes working with the team of teachers to create academic goal setting and support, solution focused response counseling, and serving as a liaison between home and school.
